Aadhaar Update & Correction Guide

There is no specific limit on how many times you can update your Aadhaar details, except for Date of Birth which can be updated only once. However, frequent unnecessary updates may raise flags. Address can be updated multiple times as you move. Name can be updated for valid reasons (marriage, court order, etc.). Each update request is verified by UIDAI before approval.

The fee for Aadhaar update is ₹50 per update request (except for biometric update for children below 5 years which is free). This fee is for document update, not for downloading e-Aadhaar. If you visit an enrollment center, they may charge an additional service fee. Online address update through SSUP portal is also ₹50 which can be paid through credit/debit card, net banking, or UPI.

Aadhaar updates typically take 7-15 working days to process. For online address updates, you can track the status using URN (Update Request Number). Once processed, you'll receive an SMS on your registered mobile number. You can download updated e-Aadhaar immediately. Physical card delivery takes additional 15-30 days. If update is rejected, you'll receive reason via SMS.

For most updates, documents are mandatory. However, for address update, you can use the "Address Update via Secret Code" feature if a relative with the same address shares their secret code with you. For other updates like name, DOB, gender, etc., supporting documents are compulsory. Mobile number and email updates require biometric authentication at enrollment centers (no documents needed for these).

If your Aadhaar update request is rejected, you'll receive an SMS stating the reason for rejection. Common reasons: Poor quality documents, mismatch in information, insufficient documents, or incorrect form filling. You can reapply with correct documents. The ₹50 fee is not refunded for rejected requests. Always ensure documents are clear, valid, and match the information you're updating.
